• Notes about life. There are two separate accounts about how the first Edwards (William) arrived in the United States. Although they are diffenent, they are consistent on William being the first of our ancestors to come and both give the date of 1636:
1. Robert Edwards arrived in Jamestown from Cardiff, Wales for the first time in 1634. It is from oral history that he came a second time in July 1636 aboard the ship "Ye Merchant Hope", with his brother's Thomas, John, WILLIAM. (From "The Edwards" by Bruce Edwards.) The brothers settled on land granted to them by the King of England.
2. In 1625, Richard (Jr.) died suddenly, leaving Ann to raise the eight children on her own. She later married James Cole. In 1635, after most of the children had grown up, she and her husband and 18 year old son WILLAM move to New England, USA. This made William the first Edwards to come to America, settling in Hartford, Conn.
• Notes about life. In 1637, William was a cooper in Harford
William married Margaret STADWORTH.
